ASL and Letter Sounds Song
We are learning that every letter has a sound and using sign language every day! This is a very good song other than the sound for x is not x. See Video. :)
Proper Writing Formation

Discover Intensive Phonics Video!
These students independently made a game from the phonics program I teach them every day. It is real teaching when they model the things I teach to other learners. This went on for 10 minutes but I only recorded a brief clip for you to see. :)
We Are Learning to Read
Kindergarten students are learning how to read every day whether they are reading familiar environmental print found from restaurant wrappers or new words and sounds they learn at school or home. Every child develops these skills at their own pace but they are more than capable to pick up on how to read in Kindergarten. Studies show that children who are read to at home have a higher likely hood to have a love of reading throughout the years.
DIBELS progress monitoring will be tested every other week for strategic and intensive studets. The mid year benchmark will be given in December. It would be beneficial to practice with your child at home every day for a few minutes. Here are a list of suggestions:
*letter names and letter sounds
*dolch sight words on flashcards
*breaking words into sounds by listening.. IE: your word is cat ....then they say ......c-a-t
*reading consonant vowel constant words from paper IE: what are the sounds? = c-a-t
*Reading Swirl books from our classroom or checking out library books from the school library. AR suggestion is .5-.8 mid year kindergarten. Please see me for questions.
*non sense words
Note: Reading is comprised of many of these ideas put together, not just being able to do one area really well. I am always available before or after school to answer any questions on your child's reading development.
This is a great website I have found if you want free games or flashcards to practice at home:

There are so many good ideas to practice specific to the kindergarten level.
Thank you for your dedication to your child's academic success. :)

September Character Trait
Responsibility: Moral, legal, or mental accountability.
All of the Kindergarten Classes watched a play put on by Mrs. Fallis's Class about how to be responsible. We discussed as a class what it meant to be responsible as well as making good choices. :)
